Abstract
The polarog. method was used to study the kinetics of O2 uptake (absorption) by sulfites. The chainlike reaction mechanism is shown, and a method is proposed for selecting the concn. of sulfites and compds. to be analyzed during the development of a polarog. method of anal. of org. and inorg. compds. The rapid and complete removal of O2 from aq. solns. by sulfites provides for good reproducibility of the polarog. method of anal. and its accuracy. The sulfites used were NaSO3, NaHSO3, and Na2S2O5. The effects of many org. and inorg. substances on the rate of O2 uptake by the sulfites in aq. soln. are shown.
