第一篇基本信息!

Flocculation Mechanism: Charge Neutralization and Bridging
Herman E. Ries Jr. 1 and Bernard L. Meyers 1

Science 28 June 1968:
Vol. 160. no. 3835, pp. 1449 - 1450
DOI: 10.1126/science.160.3835.1449
Abstract:
Electrophoresis measurements and electron-microscope observations with two model colloids and a polymeric flocculant show zeta-potential changes and details of floc structure. Fibers of the flocculant extend radially from the particle surface and vary in thickness from 20 to 300 angstroms. Both charge neutralization and bridging may function simultaneously.

Preparation of a flocculant based on polyamides

Abstract
A flocculant based on waste oligomers from the polycaprolactam production was synthesized by alkaline reduction with Ni/Al alloy. Both the reduced oligoamide and the sodium aluminate are precipitated by methanol. An oligomer, absorbed by a mineral carrier, is isolated as final product. The modified oligoamide was characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra, and was shown to contain hydroxyl groups. The prepared flocculant may be used for the clarification of natural dilute (1%) clay suspensions and wastewaters. It accelerates the precipitation 35 times, giving a compact precipitate, which favors the decanting of the clarified liquid. The optimal concentration of the flocculant is 1.8 g/liter (corresponding to 0.06 g/liter oligomer).

Synthesis of complex polymeric flocculant and its application in purifying water
Yinfeng Liu *, Shuzhi Wang, Jiadong Hua
Department of Polymer Materials, Shanghai University, Shanghai 201800, China
Abstract
A novel flocculant was synthesized, a method consisting of a poly(acrylamide-co-acrylic acid) complexed with an inorganic coagulant through the chemical bond between metal ions and carboxyl acid groups or amide ligands within the polymer. This complex polymeric flocculant is more readily available for purifying water than any single or mechanical mixture. The mechanism of flocculating is discussed and a practical use performed for wastewater from paper mill. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 76: 2093-2097, 2000

Principles of action of polymeric flocculants
J. A. Kitchener
British Polymer Journal

1972,Volume 4, Issue 3 , Pages 217 - 229

Abstract
The relationship of flocculation by water-soluble polymers to the classical phenomena of colloid chemistry is pointed out and the contributions of electrostatic and non-electrostatic forces are discussed.
Modern flocculants have a high degree of polymerization (e.g. c. 50 000) and an extremely extended configuration when dissolved in a favourable solvent; this factor explains qualitatively some of the peculiarities of flocculation by polymers and indicates the need for rational control of their use if optimum results are to be achieved. It is concluded, however, that a quantitative theory of specific flocculant systems is not possible at present.
Future developments in flocculation technology will almost certainly include introduction of cheaper or more selective flocculants, improved control through the use of auxiliary reagents and more sophisticated consideration of the surface chemistry of materials that have to be flocculated.

Abstract
The flocculation of an industrial furnish of TCF Kraft bleached pulp and ground calcium carbonate, induced by polyethylene oxide, and by the dual system formed by polyethylene oxide (PEO) and formaldehyde-phenol resin (PFR), was investigated and compared in order to study the flocculation kinetics, the flocculation mechanism and the properties of the formed flocs. A technique based on the measurement of the particle chord size distribution, called focused beam reflectance measurement, was used to carry out the research. The ability of the polyacrylate contained in the commercial ground calcium carbonate as a PEO cofactor was observed. Results confirmed the formation and the coacervation of the complex PFR-PEO, which loses its flocculant properties over time, confirming the complex bridging flocculation model. The shearing forces effect on the flocculation kinetics and on the properties of the formed flocs was also studied. © 2005 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 51: 1022-1031, 2005
