The ultimate goal in fair practice in international trade depends, among other things, on the reliability of analytical results. This in turn, particularly in pesticide residues analysis, depends not only on the availability of reliable analytical methods, but also on the experience of the analyst and on the maintenance of "good laboratory practice in the analysis of pesticides". These guidelines define such good analytical practice and may be considered in three inter-related parts: The Analyst; Basic Resources, and The Analysis. A discussion of each of these follows:
