VWR International in the UK
Our pedigree in the UK goes back to a number of drug and chemical companies from the early 1700’s, who evolved in 1909 into the British Drug Houses company.
By the 1960’s laboratory reagents and chemicals had become the core business, so the drug ranges were sold to Glaxo and our business became BDH Chemicals, then subsequently BDH Ltd. Along the way, we had acquired a host of British instrument and apparatus companies, merged under the Baird & Tatlock name and these were integrated with BDH Ltd in 1987.
The BDH group was acquired by Merck in 1973, but the UK company name was not changed until 1990 when all the businesses were consolidated as Merck Ltd. The BDH name, with its famous AnalaR, ARISTAR, HiPerSolv and other chemicals, is still retained as a brand name.
On 1st October 2000, Merck Ltd transferred to Merck Eurolab Ltd, part of a European organisation formed to maximise the potential of Merck's Laboratory Supplies Business.
Finally, as of 1st January 2002, Merck Eurolab companies have now integrated further into a single global entity with the VWR organization, and our new company, in the UK, is known as VWR International Ltd.
The new organisation is built on the strong foundations of two market leaders - Merck Eurolab and VWR Scientific Products. These are the companies that have long defined the science of supply around the world.
由此可见,它确实是从一个brand name而来
