This paper, from the aspects of formation mechanism, relationship with the environment, existing problems and prospects of pyrite framboid reviewed the progress made in the research stage and the existing problems, relationship between pyrite framboid and the environment as well as future prospects of pyrite framboid's study, at different study stages of the biological causes' theory of that (1923 ~ 1969), non-biological causes' theory of that(1969 ~ 2000) and multiple causes of that (2000 ~ present), and pointed out that pyrite framboid had great potential as the tracer detection of the surface biosphere, the deep biosphere, the extraterrestrial environment and life, and strengthened study of pyrite framboid from the integration point of view the earth science, life science, materials science, chemistry, nanotechnology and condensed matter physics.
