The restriction in Germany for PAHs:
In Germany, certain restrictions about PAH’s fall under Drinking water act and other regulations for waste disposal. There are many scientifical publications about the carcinogenic and harmful effects by PAH’s, so that PAH’s might be objected regarding § 30 of the german food and commodities act (LMBG) § 30 does not mention specifically PAH’s, but it refers to applicable ban for all harmful substances, which may cause any cause for human health based on scientifical publications.
PAHs (also known as PCAs - polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) are known to cause cancer and Benzo (a) Pyrene was the first human carcinogen identified in the 1740s as causing testicular cancer in chimney sweeps. The carcinogenic PCAs are in the 3-7 ring size as these, when metabolised and activated in the body are able to fit into the DNA helix structure and bind to the DNA. It is errors in repair that give rise to cancer.
