It should not be a problem. I have once mapped the surface the salt crystal (5mmX5mmX3mm, a very strange sample). As JayZhong (7 level) said, the surface curvature is minor and acceptable. The key is that you have to align the probe to a "right spot".
BTW, as already pointed out, SEM, I believe, is the best way.
