Following the development of fuzzy logic, we learnt that 模糊 is as important as accurate. Sometimes, we have to use approximate expression in our report such as:
数个 several 数百个 several hundreds 数千个 several thousands 数万个 tens of thousands 数十万个 hundreds of thousands 数百万个 millions 数十亿个 billions
I am not sure whether 数千万个 and 数亿个 are tens of million and thousands of million respectively. **
数十个 and 数十年 are little bit tricky for non-Egnlish speaking persons.
I suggest: Let us share our experience in expressing the approximation here.
Amendment at 13:40 on 2007/9/24 ** see 4/F and 8/F, it should be “tens of millions” and “hundreds of millions”; similarly, 数万个 tens of thousands and 数十万个 hundreds of thousands

I learnt this word in high school long time ago and also read this word frequently in newspapers, but I have never used it in my writing; perhaps, this is due to the cultural background.

happyjyl is correct except the typing error 数十万 which should be 数千万
There should be a “s” after “million”, .0/F is incorrect

I read a phase “unnoticeable amount of xxx”. I wonder that since it is unnoticeable, how do I know the existence of the xxx. Anyway, I think that it implies a very small amount of xxx.
Perhaps, it may be equivalent to “trace” (痕量) in chemical test.
