这里的scale是刻度的意思，filar应该是细如发丝的微尺，在显微镜下能看到它的刻度。用它测量出物体在视野中的直径，然后乘以放大倍数就可以得出物体的实际直径。这句话可以翻译成：调节显微镜的焦距，使（视野中）微尺的刻度最为清晰。（这里的focus是动词，意思是“调焦”。）

I searched the relevant information from some Chinese reference books about optical instrument and found that the terms 工具显微镜 and 刻尺 were frequently used, perhaps, they are equivalent to “microscope” and “filar scale” respectively.

(Since nearly all scale lines engraved in optical instrument are filar, filar scale 微丝刻尺 may has been simplified as 刻尺 in Chinese.  On the other hand, the word 工具 in 工具显微镜 seems redundant, but 约定俗成吧)


I suggest that:
(1)  For “X1.2 Apparatus:     
X1.2.1 Optical Device, with minimum magnification of     
60X, Filar glass scale and camera attachment.” ; since Filar glass scale here is a tool, it should be 玻璃(微丝)刻尺

(2)  For“Focus the microscope so the most distinct image of the Filar scale is visible”, it may be better to translated Filar scale as 刻度
