Experimental design for S180 tumor-bearingmice
The Kunming mice were randomly divided intofive groups (n=8/group): the control group and the four experimental group. In theexperimental groups, the mice were orally administered BFO-1 (250, 500, and1000 mg/ kg) every day for a week and the control group was administered theequivalent volume of saline. The five groups of mice were subcutaneously inoculatedwith 0.2 ml of S180 cell suspension (1×10⁷ ml)in the right upper limb on day 8, and then BFO-1 and saline were administeredon the other 9 days. The mice were sacrificed, and the tumor tissue wasdetached and weighed. The tumor inhibition rate was calculated according to thefollowing formula:Tumor inhibition rate (%) = (W_control - W_treated)/W_control×100%, where W_treated and W_control were theaverage tumor weights of the treated and control groups, respectively. The phagocyticactivity of the peritoneal macrophages and the production of NO were measuredas described above.
