However, we also realize that many of today’s labs are willing to sacrifice detection power for the precision of true double beam optics.  Therefore, when we designed the AI 1200 we decided to build it to offer the best of both worlds.

The AI 1200 offers true double beam optics, however, if the operator would like to operate the instrument with single beam optics, they simply need to push a button to make the switch.

Unlike many pseudo double beam systems, the AI 1200 offers a true double beam design.  Beam recombination before the monochromator is also handled with a reflecting mirror to ensure that no energy loss occurs.

Automatic Drift Correction works by first auto zeroing the signal from the lamp before each sample is determined.  Because the data acquisition time for graphite furnace and even flame absorbance spectroscopy is so short (ca. 5 sec. for GFAAS and < 1 min. for FAAS) the source light beam drift is negligible.  Therefore, the single beam optical system can come close to matching the drift correction of a true double beam system, while allowing for improved sensitivities and detection limits because the entire source beam is passed through the atomizer.
