Dissolve an accurately weighed quantity of USP Norgestrel RS inalcohol to obtain a Standard solution having a known concentration of about 10μg per mL. Concomitantly determine the absorbances of both solutions in 1-cmcells at the wavelength of maximum absorbance at about 241 nm, with a suitablespectrophotometer, using alcohol as the blank. Calculate the quantity, in mg,of C21H28O2 inthe portion of Norgestrel taken by the formula:

inwhich C is the concentration, in μg per mL, of USP Norgestrel RS inthe Standard solution, and AU and AS arethe absorbances of the solution of Norgestrel and the Standard solution,respectively.
