Inductively Coupled Plasma - Time Of - Flight - Mass Spectrometry (ICP - TOF - MS) with high spectral resolution is a powerful analytical technique. The true simultaneous measurement principle of the new TOF instrument - constructed and built up in our laboratory - allows to obtain the full mass spectrum of the sample. Features of the new development are asymmetrical flight tube for small dimensions, optimized ion introduction into the repeller region and ultra-fast flight time measurement. The unique "stopwatch" of the TOF, based on an application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC), permits the counting of 1 ns pulses. The first prototype of this instrument - a joint development of ISAS - Berlin, Analytik Jena AG and the Gesellschaft zur Förderung angewandter Optik, Optoelektronik, Quantenelektronik und Spektroskopie e. V. (GOS) - has been installed at the University Hamburg.
